MSc. Arturo Llamosí Fornés, Dr. Marek Szymański, and Prof. Agnieszka Szumna published a review paper in Chem. Soc. Rev. on the construction and applications of molecular "vessels". The authors focused on the utilization of natural compounds (such as peptides, sugars, nucleotide bases, or steroids) in tandem with macrocyclic compounds. This combination allows for leveraging the advantages of both these building blocks: the richness of functional groups in natural compounds and the structural diversity, predictability, and broad adaptability of macrocyclic compounds. As a result, the obtained hybrid molecular "vessels" find applications as selective receptors, transporters, or catalysts.
