Prof. Dorota Gryko and Dr. Maciej Giedyk published a review article in Chem Catalysis entitled Vitamin B12: An efficient cobalt catalyst for sustainable generation of radical species. Vitamin B12 as a cofactor for many enzymatic reactions has inspired synthetic chemists who have been able to mimic these catalytic properties in the lab and go beyond. In fact, this natural environmentally benign Co-complex indeed catalyzes a plethora of reactions leading to valuable molecular scaffolds. These discoveries will hopefully inspire chemists to bring these sustainable catalytic methods into broader use not only in academia, but also in industry.
